About

Tuition Shouldn't Block Ambition

Our Story

In Kenya, the transition from primary school to high school is a pivotal moment. While many students excel in their KCPE exams, the dream of further education often stops at the doorstep of high tuition fees.

Kaki Foundation was born out of a simple, powerful belief: Education is a right, not a luxury. We identified that many of our brightest stars were dimming because their families could not bridge the financial gap required for secondary enrollment. We stepped in to be that bridge.

Founder and CEO

I was eleven years old when I lost my mother, and my education became uncertain. Raised by my grandmother, I experienced firsthand how easily financial hardship can interrupt a child’s future. There were days without lunch, books, or cleared school fees. Many of my classmates never made it to high school; not because they lacked ability, but because they lacked support.

My own journey continued because teachers and well-wishers stepped in, and later, through a scholarship from the Zawadi Africa Education Fund, I was able to study abroad and pursue medicine. Today, I practice obstetrics and gynecology in California.

Kaki Foundation was born from that experience. Named in honor of my mother, Mwihaki (“Kaki”), the foundation ensures that vulnerable students in Kenya can transition from primary to secondary school without financial barriers.”

Because no child’s potential should end where hardship begins.

Our Values

Transparency

We are committed to openness and accountability in everything we do. We believe supporters deserve clear, honest insight into how resources are used and how decisions are made.

Local Understanding

Our work is grounded in lived experience. We operate within the Kenyan education landscape and design our efforts based on local realities, relationships, and needs.

Educational Equity

Our work exists to reduce barriers that prevent children from continuing their education by widening access. We believe ability and ambition are universal, but access to opportunity is not.

We Are A Strong Team

The foundation was created in response to a recurring and deeply human problem: children completing primary school with motivation and promise, but no viable path forward.

Rather than addressing education as an abstract issue, the Kaki Foundation was established to respond to this specific, often overlooked transition point; where targeted support can change the entire trajectory of a child’s life.
